Imagine how much strength is needed to pull yourself out of a mentally dark place.
Living inside that darkness was not easy. Having already experienced divorce and the breakdown of an important relationship, I found myself trapped in a cycle of emotional pain, uncertainty, and self-doubt.
There was a time when I felt trapped in a cycle of emotional pain, uncertainty, and self-doubt. As a divorced woman trying to rebuild her life, I longed for something positive — companionship, happiness, and the hope of a brighter future.
Despite everything I had experienced, I still believed change was possible.
Looking For A Fresh Start
When I met a new partner, nothing initially seemed out of place. Everything appeared comforting and romantic. I believed I had finally found someone who would bring stability, understanding, and joy into my life.
But before I fully understood what was happening, I had become deeply emotionally invested.
Like many people caught in unhealthy relationships, I blamed myself for the problems that emerged. I questioned my own judgement and overlooked warning signs that, in hindsight, seem obvious. At the time, however, they were hidden beneath affection, promises, and the desire to believe the best in someone.
By 2014, I had reached a point where something inside me knew that things were not right. The happiness I once felt had gradually disappeared, replaced by confusion, anxiety, and a growing sense that I was losing myself.
Searching for answers, I immersed myself in learning about psychopathic, sociopathic, and narcissistic behaviour. The more I researched, the more I recognised patterns that reflected my own experiences.
What I had once believed was love looked increasingly like manipulation.
That realisation became the beginning of a long journey — one that would eventually lead me from darkness towards understanding, healing, and purpose.
Regain Control Of A Troubled Life.
When I moved to England in 2016, I began writing as a way to organise my thoughts and regain a sense of control over my life.
What started as a personal outlet gradually became something much larger. Writing helped me process experiences that had once felt overwhelming and gave me the opportunity to examine the realities of emotional manipulation and psychological abuse.
As my understanding grew, so did my desire to raise awareness. I wanted others to recognise the warning signs I had missed and to understand how easily manipulation can be disguised as love, concern, or devotion.
That journey eventually became The Maze Trilogy.
Through deeply personal storytelling inspired by real experiences, the series explores emotional manipulation, coercive control, trauma, resilience, and survival. The books reveal how destructive relationships can develop gradually and how difficult it can be to recognise them while living through them.
More importantly, they demonstrate that recovery is possible.
As a result, I released Part 1 of my book HUGGER MUGGER: The Con Man Smile.
Thereafter followed by Part 2 MAZE AFLAME: Flimflam Man.
Then came Ashes of the Maze: Nothing Escapes the Fire – Part III
The books in this series explore the lived experience of a woman trapped in a toxic and psychologically destructive relationship. Drawing from real-life events, the narrative examines emotional manipulation, trauma, coercive control, and the lasting impact such experiences can leave behind. Through deeply personal storytelling, the series reveals hidden dynamics of psychological abuse and the complex reality of loving someone with destructive and manipulative traits.
I wrote these books to raise awareness and help others recognise the warning signs of emotional manipulation before it is too late. My hope is that both women and men who find themselves in similar situations may gain insight, understanding, and the confidence to trust their instincts when something feels wrong.
Since publication, readers from around the world have shared their thoughts on the series and the impact it has had on them. The themes explored throughout The Maze Trilogy have also been discussed in the media, including in New York Weekly Reviews M.L. Stark’s Exploration of Toxic Relationships. Here are a few of the readers’ reviews:
“A very interesting page-turner which reminds me of my own attempts to warn friends of harmful significant others.” —AlexS
Very touching and inspiring read
“The story has been so emotionally and effectively penned down, you will feel pity for Mary. I really felt very connected to her, I was feeling her pain. The story depicts how a single decision can have leave such an impact in one’s life. This was an eye-opening, inspiring read.” —Shweta Chalke
I can relate
“I didn’t expect for the theme of this book to hit home as it did. I had a marriage that reminded me of what I experienced as I read. Fortunately, I was able to survive and move on. Burning Desire Fades: The Psychopath and the Girl in Black Prada Shoes is well-written and has credible characters and situations.”

Accomplished The Impossible
What began as one of the darkest periods of my life eventually became something I never imagined possible.
Writing helped me make sense of experiences that once seemed overwhelming. It gave me a voice, a purpose, and a way to transform pain into something meaningful. What started as personal healing eventually became The Maze Trilogy — a story of manipulation, survival, resilience, and recovery.
If these books help even one person recognise warning signs sooner, trust their instincts, or understand that they are not alone, then sharing my story has been worthwhile.
The past may shape us, but it does not have to define us. Recovery is possible, hope can return, and sometimes the most difficult chapters of our lives become the beginning of something stronger.
