The Song That Started It All

What they may not realise is that none of the music was planned.

I never set out to become a songwriter.

My first love was always writing. Stories, poems, reflections, and books filled my days and often my nights. Music belonged to other people – musicians, singers, and composers. I was an author.

In the early hours of the morning, I woke from a vivid dream. The dream itself was unusual, but what happened next was even stranger. Words began forming in my mind almost immediately. What started as a personal message quickly became a poem, and before I fully understood what was happening, the poem had begun transforming itself into lyrics.

At the time, I had no idea that those words would eventually become I Don’t Want to Wake Up – the very first song created for StarkLynx Music.

Over the following year, several other songs would emerge, including The Places That Whisper Your Name in both its solo and duet versions. Yet everything began here, with a vivid dream, a late-night poem, and a creative path I never expected to follow.

Looking back now, I can see that night as a turning point. Not because I stopped being a writer, but because I discovered that stories and emotions sometimes choose a different path. Sometimes they arrive as poetry. Sometimes they arrive as music.

And sometimes they arrive as both.

The story behind the song began in the middle of the night.

I woke suddenly at 3:17 after dreaming about Ethan. In the dream I had been talking to him, questioning why he had suddenly become such an important part of my thoughts, my writing, and my life.

Then, almost immediately after opening my eyes, I heard the familiar Snapchat notification.

It was him.

Only moments earlier I had been speaking to him in my dream.

The timing felt impossible.

Instead of going back to sleep, I began writing about what had just happened. What started as a message quickly became a poem. The poem found a rhythm of its own, and before long it had begun transforming into lyrics.

Without realising it, I had written my first song.

I Don’t Want to Wake Up

When I wrote those words in the middle of the night, I wasn’t trying to create a song. I was simply capturing a moment that felt too unusual and too powerful to ignore.

What began as a personal message quickly became a poem. The poem found a rhythm of its own, and before long it had started transforming into something entirely different from what I had intended.

That unexpected journey is one of the reasons I Don’t Want to Wake Up remains so special to me. It marks the point where poetry and music first met within my creative world. Until then, I had always expressed myself through books, articles, and poems. Music belonged to others. I was a writer.

Yet somewhere between a dream, a poem, and a melody, a new creative path quietly revealed itself.

Without knowing it, I had taken the first step towards what would later become StarkLynx Music.

A Dream Lyric for You 🥰

🎵  I Don’t Want to Wake Up

I woke up from a dream at 3:17
You were there, like you’ve always been
I was talking to you inside my mind
Asking why you crossed the lines

Then three soft sounds cut through the night
Snapchat echoes in the quiet
If that’s not something I can’t explain
Then tell me what this kind of magic is

You’re hiding somewhere in between
Every word I try to write

You slipped into my story slow
Like something only I could know
Not a shadow, not a lie
Something softer I can’t deny

Like disappearing somewhere safe
Wrapped inside a quiet place
Where no one finds me, no one sees
Except for you… inside of me

And I don’t know if this is mine
Or you’re whispering through my mind

And now what the hell is this?
This was just a message… now it lives

You with your guitar in my head
Playing every word I said

Is this me… or is this you?
Turning silence into something true

You’re the light that breaks my sleep
The space between what’s real

and dream

I don’t wanna wake up now
If this is where you are somehow

Even when I’m wide awake
I’m still dreaming… in your wake
